About the Center

This project will investigate inadequate healthcare in U.S. prisons and jails as both a constitutional violation and a public health emergency. We’ll analyze how courts apply the Eighth Amendment’s “deliberate indifference” standard, review litigation and DOJ investigations, and examine how privatized prison healthcare affects outcomes. Our work will culminate in a data-driven policy report and an interactive map/timeline.
