Foreign Policy: China's Imprint in Pakistan

2023-2024 Project

The China’s Imprints project in the Foreign Policy Center studied China’s deepening influence in the South Asia region, focusing on Pakistan. Since Beijing already has cordial relations with Islamabad, we analyzed how the emerging geopolitical situation is providing an opportunity for China to further its influence in the region. Some of the main components of our project examined the following areas:

  • China’s flagship project, the Belt and Road Initiative, with a focus on its multi-billion dollar China–Pakistan Economic Corridor project

  • China’s methods in accelerating its relations with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan to fill the vacuum created by the United States' absence

  • Pakistan’s approach to balancing the relations between Sino-US rivalry & Sino-India rivalry

Our center partnered with the Woodrow Wilson Center and Stimson Center, and we circulated our research findings among the policy circles in DC.
